Early Years Provision: Nursery - Four Year Olds
You are welcome to come in and meet our staff and see the provision we have in place. Staff will be only too happy to show you around.
Our Foundation Stage Department (Nursery) operates both mornings and afternoons and is run by Mrs Thomas and assisted by qualified members of staff.
The Nursery is part of Pennoweth Primary School and the department complements the aims, ethos and high standards of the school as a whole.
To register your child for a nursery place, please complete a Nursery Application Form, available from the school office.
You will be notified of a place in the term prior to your child starting with us. Generally, children will start with us in the term following their third birthday.
We ask that children do not start in the nursery until they are reliably toilet trained.
A separate Nursery Prospectus is available from the office providing more detailed information.
Full Time School
Children become eligible for full-time education as follows:
Date of 5th birthday:
1st September – 29th February: Start full time in Autumn Term
1st March – 31st August: Start full-time in Spring Term
We have forty five places each year for our reception class. Places are allocated using strict criteria following the county-wide policy established in September 2000 and all applications are administered by the Local Authority.
Admission booklets are distributed to parents in October each year for completion and return to Cornwall County Admissions Team by the end of November. Parents will be notified of the outcome of their application in mid April.
In the event of over-subscription, parents who are refused places at their first choice school have the right to appeal to the Independent Appeals Panel. More details about admission procedures are contained in the Admissions Booklet referred to above.
Children from Pennoweth Primary School normally transfer to Redruth Community School at the age of 11. We liaise closely with the members of staff From Redruth Community School and do everything possible to ensure a smooth transfer.
Year Six pupils spend induction days at Redruth School along with a series of visits to various departments throughout the Summer Term to help familiarise themselves with their new school. Their Head of Year will visit the school and a number of Parents Evenings and Open Evenings are held throughout the year. Children with specific needs have additional visits arranged too.
